| The Judges' Education Committee is
responsible for developing and presenting educational materials to AKC judges and
prospective judges with regard to proper evaluation of the conformation and temperament of
Belgian Tervuren in accordance with the AKC Breed Standard.
The ABTC JEC, originally consisting of Edeltraud Laurin, chair, Karen Johnson and
Barbara Krohn, published the booklet, Breed Type in the Belgian
Tervuren, A Guide For Judges (1980), as well as the the book The
Complete Belgian Tervuren, published by Howell books in 1990. Members of the Judges Education Committee work together to develop
educational materials, act as mentors at the National Specialty, and
present seminars across the country.

Edeltraud Laurin has been chairman of the Education Committee since its inception, and
took over leadership of the Judges Education Committee when the Education Committee split
judges education off as a separate committee in the 1990s. She has served as the
ABTC's President and as past Board member. Mrs. Laurin is one of our our early
breeder judges and is currently licensed to judge the Working & Herding Groups,
Sporting & Non-Sporting breeds. Mrs. Laurin judged the ABTC National Specialty
on three occasions and was the first breeder judge to officiate at Westminster KC
for the 3 Belgians, and later judged the Herding Group at Westminster. She has
judged extensively in Europe and South America.
Under her tutelage, the club's first hardcover breed book, The Complete
Belgian Tervuren was published through the auspices of the ABTC Education
Committee of 1990. Mrs. Laurin also was the author of the first book published on
the Belgian Tervuren in the United States entitled Your Belgian Tervuren.
She has served as founding President for a local German Shepherd Dog Club, was show chair
for Windham County (The Thanksgiving Cluster, Springfield, MA) for 10 years, and as that
club's AKC delegate and as past president of Nathan Hale Obedience Club. Her kennel
operates under the "Chateau Blanc" name since 1960.

has served on many boards and committees, including breed standard revision committees
and chairing the 1996 ABTC National Specialty show. Working
on
the Judges Education committee, she assembled and submitted the materials for the ABTC book, The
Complete Belgian Tervuren (Howell books 1990); coordinated the startup of
the abtc.org website; and designed this Judges Guide
website, and remains an active contributor to the ongoing development of ABTC
judges education presentations. She has
owner-handled Tervuren to Specialty and Group wins as well
as OTCH obedience, Tracking and Masters agility titles. She also owner-handled Great
Pyrenees, Schipperkes and Brittanies to Specialty and group wins. Karen is a
licensed AKC and UKC judge of Belgians and Juniors,
having judged AKC, UKC and CKC Specialty shows for the Belgians,
including the 2007 ABTC National Specialty show. |

Belgian Tervuren in 1968 and has been a member of ABTC since 1971. She chaired the
National Specialty in Sacramento, CA in the early 1970s (as part of an all-breed show) and
also has served as ABTC treasurer. She is approved to judge all Herding breeds, the
Herding Group, Junior Showmanship and BIS. She is also UKC-approved to judge the Gun Dog
and Herding Groups. |

has been in the breed since 1972 and is the breeder of hundreds of accomplished conformation,
obedience and tracking Tervuren under the StarBright name. She is an active AKC obedience
and breed judge, as well as a UKC breed judge. She has
twice judged the National
Specialty for the American Belgian Tervuren Club, and has judged the
National for the Belgian Sheepdog Club of America,
the American Belgian Malinois Club, and the Belgian Sheepdog Club of Canada. Additionally
she judged the NBSDC Specialty in Great Britain, and has judged Belgians in
Australia. Over the years she served in many
capacities for the ABTC, including 10 years as its AKC Delegate and as
several as President. |

Janina K. Laurin has been a member of the ABTC Judges Education committee since its
inception. She has served as the Club's past President, Secretary, and for many
years on the Board of Directors. She is currently serving her second 4 year term as the
AKC Delegate for the ABTC. Ms. Laurin is a judge of the 3
Belgians, having judged several specialty shows, including the ABTC's 2005
National Specialty show. She has served as
show chair for Putnam and Newtown Kennel Clubs and as show chair for an ABTC National. Ms. Laurin continues to actively compete in the
conformation/obedience/agility arenas, as she continues to produce many
accomplished Tervuren under the
Chateau Blanc banner.

| Linda Friedow

of AKC dog shows in 1974, acquired her first Tervuren in 1979, and
joined the ABTC in 1980. Together with her husband, Rory Friedow DVM,
they have bred under the Tervuren of Anduin name. They have produced
multiple champions, group placers and their dogs have earned
advanced titles in all venues where Tervuren compete - obedience,
agility, tracking and herding. Linda has been active working with
children and dogs through 4-H classes for 15 years. Linda is an AKC
judge of Belgians and Juniors, having judged regional specialties as
well as the ABTC 2004 National Specialty show. She
has served as ABC board member, two term vice-president and is
currently serving a second term as ABTC president. She is a member of the American
Belgian Malinois Club and has the distinction of being that breed's
first breeder-judge. |

started showing dogs in obedience around 1975. She acquired her first Belgian Sheepdog in 1979 which became her first Belgian
Champion. In only 4 Belgian Sheepdog litters, she has
produced 8 champions and the number 1 Belgian Sheepdog for
1998. Linda's bitch was the top producing Belgian Sheepdog
bitch in 1986. Linda is currently the Chairman of the Belgian Sheepdog Judges Education program.
In 1989, she acquired her first Belgian Tervuren and joined the American
Belgian Tervuren Club. She currently lives with 3 Belgian Tervuren. In
2 Tervuren litters, Linda has produced 9 Champions, a regional
specialty BOB winner from the classes, 2 group winners, national
specialty select, many obedience and agility titles, and a BIS
dog. Linda has been a member of the ABTC Judges education
committee in 1996.
Linda has had the honor of judging all 3 Belgian National Specialties, the American Belgian Tervuren Club National Specialty, the Belgian
Sheepdog Club of America National Specialty and the American
Belgian Malinois Club National Specialty.
She is currently approved to judge all herding breeds, the herding group, some working breed, some sporting breeds, miscellaneous classes and
BIS.
